Finding the Ideal Time to Exercise

By Earle Cafourek

We all know that it's important to get regular exercise. Is there a time to exercise which is best? To get the answer to this question, a few different issues need to be considered. You have to consider your schedule as well as your own body clock. What time gives you the best results will probably only be determined by experimentation. There are ways to determine when you should do your exercises, and this article will help you identify them.

Exercise is traditionally done the first thing in the morning. Your lifestyle habits will greatly impact what time is the most comfortable for your body to workout. Sticking to a workout program when you haven't been able to stick to one in the past is probably easiest if you workout when you first wake up each day. There are some advantages. Getting up a little earlier to workout may help you overcome the distractions you face during the day. Exercise is a great way to make you feel good about yourself as you start the day. There are few things that can provide the alertness boost of a morning workout.

Waiting until you get home, and working out then, is another option you can choose. Although you will have more time, evening workouts may not work out for you. You may not sleep very well if you work out in the evening because your body will be fully energized. If you can work out earlier, you'll notice that you will sleep like a rock. Not only do you get exercise through physical activity, but it releases the stress in your body. Avoiding evening workouts is still a good idea, simply because your body will be very active and awake. Gentle exercises are the only options since they actually relax you. You would benefit from doing your hard-core workouts, and exercise routines, earlier in the day for this reason. Typically, the only reason that a person will work out in the evening is because their schedule leaves them no choice.

Many of the experts will have an idea of when the best time to work out will be, and yet others will disagree, making it very difficult to trust any one particular expert. The best time to exercise, according to them, might be the morning, or even afternoons or evenings. Every one of us has a body clock, and paying attention to that is going to be more realistic for you personally. You could find yourself wanting to change your schedule, especially if you hear a different theory on a better time to work out. Don't do it! So when determining your workout schedule, you should never ignore messages that your body is telling you.

Even if you prefer exercising later in the day, you want to prepare your body as much as possible for the conditions it's going to have to endure. You simply will not be capable of performing at your peak if it occurs in the morning and you are training in the afternoons.

You really need to prepare your body as much as possible for what you will have to endure, so train during the appropriate time to get the best results. People that train in the afternoons for a morning marathon are simply not going to do very well against others that trained every morning for the event. The best time for you to exercise may be different than it is for other people. You should now have an idea of what the ideal time to exercise is for your own situation. If you have a full time job, for example, you obviously have to plan your workouts around this. Scheduling your exercise program is about responsible use of your time in a way that will keep you feeling great.
